SVC would like to extend thanks to Larry and Veronica Cooper. On Tuesday January 18, 2011, the Coopers rescued an injured 5 year old female bald eagle off of Jefferson Rd. in Ionia. They were able to safely catch her and bring her to SVC to have her evaluated. The eagle suffered a compound fracture of the left wing and was no longer able to fly. She was housed at SVC overnight and Dr. Sterner then bandaged the injured wing before her transport to MSU Veterinary Clinic. An update from MSU stated that the eagle was doing well, but she will never be able to fly again. They will be treating her for the next 3 weeks before she goes to a rehabilitator. Her final destination, whether a zoo or sanctuary, is unknown at this time. We will post any new updates as we receive them. Thank you again to the Coopers for giving this eagle another chance at life.
